How To Plant Potatoes In Containers

Here is a guide to planting seed potatoes in a container. This guide will be relevant for all sizes of container but you will have to vary the amount of potatoes and fertiliser to the size of the container.

What you will need -
1) A 17 litre container
2) A seed potato
3) 17 litres of general purpose compost
4) 40grams of potato fertiliser
5) 10 grams of Nuitrimate organic plant growth stimulant.
6) A measuring spoon
Place a 2 inch layer of your compost into the container and the add your potato fertiliser and Nutrimate. Mix the fertiliser and Nutrimate into the compost in the container.

Now place your seed potato into the compost and add all of the remaining compost to the container.

You can now place the container outside or keep it indoors but be careful not to over water.
In a few weeks time you will see the first sign of your potatoes peeking through.

If you are growing potatoes in the green potato planter bags then I would recommend using 3 seed potatoes in them. I would also fill the bag halfway with compost once you have planted the potatoes and then place a further 2 layers until you get to the top of the bag.
